SQUARE PULL OR NOT

Postby coachmpope on Sat Jan 31, 2009 11:35 pm

THIS IS FROM COACH POPE. YES.... I BELIEVE IN THE SQARE PULL ON THE LONG TRAP ....IT LETS YOU PICKUP A EXTRA BLITZER IF Y9U GET TO THAT BEFORE YOU GET TO THE TRAP. I DO NOT THINK THAT YOU CAN SQUARE PULL ON THE SHORT TRAP BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT PROBABLY GET THERE FAST ENOUGH. I DO BELIEVE YOU NEED TO SQUARE PULLL IF PERFORMING A COMBO BLOCK ...CHARLIE, GEORGE, TOM EXC. OR WHATEVER YOU CALL ITL
THE NFL AND MOST COLLEGES SQUARE PULL BECAUSE MOST ARE ALSO TEACHING ZONE PRINCIPLES AND A SQUARE PULL IS ALMOST A BUCKET STEP. THE OFF SIDE TACKLE ON THE COUNTER TRADE NEEDS TO SQUARE PULLL SO
THE OFFSIDE GUARD CAN GET TO HIS BLOCK WITH OUT BEING RUN OVER BY THE PULLING TACKLE. I ALSO SQUARE PULL ON BOOTLEGS.

We do it on anything in which our pulling G or T is getting to the second level, such as 1 back power, counter(tackle square pulls and guard flat pulls in front of him), and dart.
